Well, we did it… we moved to that little house in the foothills of the Smokey Mountains. We made the drive across country from the west coast to the east coast. Each of us pulling a trailer loaded to the gills, me pulling the boat and hubby the horse trailer. Our PODS arrived before we did.
When we arrived in North Carolina and our friends not only opened their home to us they previewed many listings for us make short work of us finding a home. We are blessed to have such wonderful friends. Escrow opened and closed, POD’s emptied of our belongings, and then the realization hits us… we have way too much stuff… going from a 4 bedroom to a 2 bedroom means we are going to have a giant garage sale.
As we unpack each item we have to ask ourselves: Is there room? Where can it go? Do we need it? Do we love it? Does it have special meaning? Is it worth mailing to our children? Should we sell it? We thought we were prepared when we moved – we gave family heirlooms, in our case ~ furniture that belonged to the grandparents and great grandparents, to our children. We sold, donated and gave items to friends, we even recycled.
We’ve decided when we’re finished unpacking and sorting we are going to have a garage sale. Already have three boxes full and pile of stuff! What’s left will be given away, donated or recycled.
