Since we became Grand parents, Memorial weekend has always been “our” weekend. The one weekend we were guaranteed our special time, if only for a few days, with our grand children. Sometimes we’d go to the beach, or go on adventures in the jeep, or go hiking, or to the zoo. Occasionally we would stay home and ride the horses, shoot the guns, bake or sew. But we’d always spent one day planting our Corn, Tomatoes, Beans, Okra, Squashes and Melons in the veggie garden. One year we built the ugliest but most original scare crow ever. Those days were and always will be memories treasured in our hearts.
We will miss our special time with our Grand kids this weekend. As they became older their schedules began to encroach on our weekend. However, we consider ourselves fortunate to have been able to go and watch many of their activities. We miss them greatly since we moved, but maybe just a little bit more this weekend. We do look forward to seeing them soon though. Maybe this years visit will be later in the year and for more than just a few days.
