Abraham Lincoln Museum

Today we visited the Bostic Lincoln Museum in Rutherford County, North Carolina. Historians of Rutherford County believe that Abraham Lincoln, son of  Nancy Hanks of Rutherford County, was not the son of her husband Thomas Lincoln. That he is the son of Abram Enloe, a Rutherford County resident, who brought the orphaned Nancy Hanks to work as a servant in his home.

I found the fact that Lincoln’s birth certificate, college records and such are sealed from the public very odd. In addition to the sealed records being an illegitimate presidential candidate in Lincoln’s Era might be frowned upon.  Evidently there are many books regarding this matter.

I’m rather curious as to why the Lincoln family refuses to do DNA testing with the Enloe family. Seems doing so would put and end to the speculation.  Maybe the stigma of illegitimacy and hiding the truth is still as prevalent today as it was in the yester years.
